Find Trucking Jobs in Indiana

A high percentage of Indiana’s income comes from manufacturing. The state contains the largest steel-producing area in the country. Other manufactured products include pharmaceuticals and medical devices, automobiles, electrical and transportation equipment, chemical products, rubber, petroleum and coal products, and factory machinery. A strong manufacturing economy means a strong trucking industry, because all of these goods and commodities must be hauled from their point of origin in the state of Indiana to diverse locations throughout the country. This means that Indiana is a great place to build a satisfying career as a professional trucker!

All types of professional trucking jobs are available in Indiana. You can stay in your local area, driving a regular route that allows you to be home most every day. You can travel throughout the region hauling goods and commodities for slightly longer trips of up to a week or so, punctuated by weekly trips home. Or, you can go for the Over The Road (OTR) jobs where you drive long distances and see significant sections of the country. The latter type of job can be very appealing to those with an adventurous spirit and the desire to “see the world”. Of course, even on OTR jobs, you get to spend quality time at home in between assignments. Hard to choose? Many people wishing to enter the trucking profession take classes at professional trucking schools throughout the state. There, you will have a chance to get your questions answered and figure out what type of driving is best suited to your style and taste.

You must submit a valid Medical Examination Report for Commercial Driver Fitness Form. You must be either a US citizen or a legal permanent resident. All of these requirements are overseen by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).

Building Your Indiana Trucking Career

Commercial drivers in Indiana are represented by the Indiana Motor Truckers Association. This organization represents the trucking industry through its focus on safety and advocacy. The IMTA participates in the program “truckers against trafficking” that exists to educate and empower members of the trucking industry in identifying instances of sex trafficking and reporting these incidents to the appropriate authorities. It provides training and materials to assist truck drivers and related personnel in identifying probable instances of human sex trafficking and taking action to stop it.
