Indiana Trucking Jobs

There are many trucking jobs in Indiana that you can explore. Located in the north, you can explore many different routes and even drive interstate to go into Illinois, Michigan and many of the other states in that area. With only a CDL, you can access high paying jobs with many different benefits.

Some highways along the Ohio River may become flooded and unserviceable shortly after periods of heavy rain. Many state highways in low-lying areas also flood easily, especially in the southern region of the state. Flash flooding is generally not a problem along Indiana's interstate highways.

The terrain in the northern part of the state is generally flat; however, in the south region there are plenty of hilly areas. This is especially true around Nashville, which is a popular tourist destination. These hills make for an exceptionally scenic drive during the autumn months.

Several counties in the northwestern part of the state observe Central Standard Time, while the majority of the state operates on Eastern Standard Time. This is because of their close proximity to Chicago. As such, the cities of Hammond, Gary, and East Chicago may also experience heavy traffic during commuting hours since many residents are employed in the Windy City.

Salary and Career Outlook

There is a significant portion of the population employed as drivers.  There are almost 48,000 employed in this profession in the state, which is above the national average when compared to the overall population.  Average commercial driver earnings were $40,400 per year based on BLS.gov data.

It’s important to research the different opportunities throughout Indiana because every industry has different standards, different equipment to contend with and different ways of paying. You need to find out which industries are more likely to provide you with the quality of life that you wish to have.

Within the next decade, there will be 21 percent more positions than there are today. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released this statistic in 2010 and it is likely because of the growing need to transport products around the country in a cost-effective manner.

Important Laws and Regulations in Indiana

When you are driving a truck in Indiana in the winter, you will have to comply with their laws regarding tire chains. When there is snow, ice or other conditions, you may be required to have tire chains on your truck. These can be on your vehicle from October 1 to May 1.

It’s also important to know about the Indiana’s Habitual Traffic Violator law, which increases penalties if you commit the same offense in a 10 year period. This can include such things as speeding, failure to lead and various other traffic violations.

Within Indiana, you must also submit to federal DOT regulations. This includes not driving more than 11 hours in a consecutive period and not driving more than 70 hours in an 8-day consecutive period.

There are many unique trucking jobs in Indiana that encompass many industries. Explore each one and see how the benefits work to provide you with a solid career.
