Requirements for Truck Driving in Tennessee

The minimum age requirement for a commercial driver’s license is 18 but you must be at least 21 to drive across state lines or carry passengers. You must show proof of identity and legal right to be in the United States, as well as legal residence in the state of Tennessee. You also need a valid social security number and a completed Medical Examiner’s Form.  

To get your learner’s permit, you need to pass a vision and a general knowledge test, as well as knowledge tests for any endorsements you will be seeking. This will enable you to practice driving in the company of commercial driver’s license holder.  When you feel you are ready, you need to make an appointment to take your skills test, and, upon passing this test, you will be issued your CDL.
