FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CRETE CARRIER CORPORATION REPEATS AS TOP 100 MILITARY FRIENDLY EMPLOYER
Lincoln, Neb.—Crete Carrier Corporation announced today that it has earned the 2014 Military Friendly Employer® title by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse. Companies competed for the elite Military Friendly Employer® title via a data-driven survey of more than 5,000 companies with resulting survey data independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Criteria for the survey included a benchmark score across key programs and policies such as the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.
Crete Carrier, along with its Shaffer Trucking and Hunt Transportation operations, aggressively seeks to hire military talent and has found that hiring from the military community is a strategic competitive advantage. “I’m honored that our family of companies has been recognized, yet again, for our dedication to hiring military personnel,” says Tonn Ostergard, Crete Carrier president and CEO. “We continue to value these veterans and can’t thank them enough for their service to our country and to Crete Carrier Corporation.”
With nearly 30 percent of employees being veterans, Crete and Shaffer have received numerous awards as a national leader in supporting current and former members of the military. This year alone, Crete Carrier Corporation received the American Legion Employer of Veterans Award for the Large Business category and was recognized as a finalist for CivilianJobs.com’s Most Valuable Employers for Military list. Additionally, the Nebraska Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) awarded Crete the Pro Patria Award, while the ESGR also named Crete a semifinalist for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
“As a company we feel privileged to offer employment to those transitioning from the military,” says Driver Development Manager Issac Phillips. “Veterans can feel stranded once back in civilian life, and it is important that we offer them a solid career with long-term benefits. The Patriot Fleet, which we recently expanded from five to 10 specially wrapped trucks, is just one example of our dedication to honoring military and giving back to those who have done so much for us.”
Now in its 11th year, Military Friendly Employers® media is the premier resource for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. Each year companies taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria, and weightings developed with the assistance of an Advisory Board consisting of leaders in the military recruitment community. A full list of board members can be found at MilitaryFriendly.com/board.
Crete Carrier Corporation will be showcased, along with other 2014 Military Friendly Employers® in the December edition of G.I. Jobs magazine and online at MilitaryFriendly.com. Using the priority data engine on MilitaryFriendly.com, job seekers are able to view prospective employer profiles, as well as design their own custom lists according to their preferences. Custom, user-directed lists can then be saved and shared socially, allowing each job seeker to find their unique #1 Military Friendly Employer®.
“The 2014 Military Friendly Employers® represent the preeminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment,” said Sean Collins, Vice President for Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. “Our Military Friendly Employers® constitute the group of companies actually moving the needle and hiring from the military community. The 2014 Military Friendly Employers reported hiring more than 117,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, representing an average of 14 percent of total new hires.”
