Forward Air Operating Characteristics
- Forward Air, Inc. operates in all 48 states and Canada
- Operates within a closed network, with 75 terminals located at or near airports and the federal highway system.
- Owner-operators are contracted to FAF, Inc.
- Dockworkers and city drivers do all shipment handling.
- 65% of runs are dedicated fixed turns, with scheduled arrival and release times.
- Most pickups and deliveries are made at Company or agent operated facilities, eliminating waiting time and customer coordination.
- Majority of runs require team operations, producing high mileage.
- Late model 53 ft. flat-floor air-ride trailers used throughout network.
Owner-Operator Program
- Home at least weekly, with many dedicated runs home every 1-2 days.
- 24 hour, seven days a week Dispatch availability.
- $1000.00 escrow is required – a weekly deduction of $100.00 for 10 weeks will meet this requirement.
- Qualcomm satellite communications with Dispatch is required. The cost is $175.00-$200.00 to install with $50.00 a week settlement deduction, and weekly rental fee of $18 through settlement deduction.
- Comdata card provided for fuel purchases and cash advances with settlement deduction.
- Company provided scale PrePass.
- Weekly settlement.
- Fuel and mileage taxes filed by Company with settlement deduction.
- Licensing and permitting coordinated by Company with settlement deduction. All tractors must be permitted for 48 states.
- 50% reimbursement for East Coast tolls
- Semi-annual DOT inspections required, free at Company owned maintenance facilities.
- Free truck washes at Groveport, OH maintenance facility.
- National account discounts available for tire purchases.
- Company provided public liability and cargo insurance, with first $1000 loss reimbursement from owner-operator with settlement deduction.
- Required un-laden/non-trucking liability insurance; fire, theft and collision insurance; and workers' compensation insurance available through approved insurance carrier with settlement deduction.
- 3-day orientation in Groveport OH or Atlanta GA.
Eligibility Requirements
Drivers:
- Must be at least 23 years of age.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language as required in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
- Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Hazardous Materials endorsement and no restrictions.
- Must have previous commercial driving with over-the-road tractor-trailer experience within the past 5 years.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and substance abuse test.
- Must meet all other FAF and DOT standards and qualifications.
- Must conduct all work in a safe and efficient manner.
Equipment:
- Power units that are 4 years of age or newer preferred.
- Fifth wheel configuration must accommodate an overall trailer height of 13'6" when hooked to a Forward Air system trailer.
- Must pass and maintain a current DOT inspection.
- Power units will be inspected for slogans or graphics that do not meet FAF standards.
