I am getting ready to head to truck driving school in a few weeks.  I will definitely miss my family while on the road.  What are some good ways that anyone has found to stay connected while on the road?

Demanding higher wages and benefits.

It takes Two people to make it in the trucking industrey. Solo drivers are being paid substandard wages and Co's are cheating drivers out of what they can. I ask spread the word and post commits on twitter. Drivers need to start demanding higher wages and paid benefits. Getting paid 1985 wages does not pay the bills. If drivers do not demand more they will not get it.

Letters from the road

I use video chat and phone, but I also like to send letters from the road.  My kids get a kick out of getting mail from different parts of the country.  They are 7 and 5.

Phone

Lots of phone calls works for me.

Use technology

I have driven over the road for a few years.  Here are my tips to stay connected:

1. Get a laptop with a camera.  Video chat helps a lot, and you can use free services like Skype.

2. Get a good phone with lots of minutes.  Phone calls and texts come in handy while on the road.

3. Make sure you get home as often as it is possible.
